In order to apply an effective epoxy coating, you will need to remove the top layer of existing concrete, with a process called shot blasting. This process removes the first few millimeters of corrupted concrete by propelling small metal beads at an incredibly high rate of speed. The impact of these beads coming into contact with the concrete makes the concrete porous but leaves a nice smooth surface, and enables the floor to be coated with a sealant. This is a much more effective way to prepare your concrete floor than grinding, due to the fact that grinding will actually re-seal the top layer of concrete after removing all contaminants.
